I do have an update on the new collage on canvas series that was to begin this month. There has been a delay and they won't be available this month, but will definately be ready in mid January. I will post them here as soon as they are ready.

The Blue House

My mom used to make and sell little wood houses that she painted. She would create whole villages with country stores, bake shops and ice cream parlors just to name a few. She has since retired her house making and had several, blank, wooden houses left over. I decided to take a few and see what I could do with them. This is the result.
This house is a sculptural piece and all of the sides and the roof have been altered and collaged. You can view more pics of this piece at my Etsy shop. http://sarahogren.etsy.com

New Work on Canvas

Both of these pieces are collages on canvas and measure 8x8x1.25". The story time piece has already been posted in my Etsy shop and the "She Dreamed of Flying..." piece will be posted later today. http://sarahogren.etsy.com/

In December I will be starting a new series of work that will consist of small, chunky, collages on canvas. Each collage will be different, but they will all coordinate with one another. The idea is that they can be grouped together to make a larger piece or stand alone if desired. Check back here in December for more information.

"Bunny and the Raccoon". Collage with Hanger

I've finally gotten enough work completed for my upcoming art shows and have had some time to work on a new piece for my shop.
This is a collage on a trivet. Yes, a trivet. The base of the trivet is made of stone and the frame is resin and the hanger is metal.

"She Loved Nature". Collage With Altered Mat.

The inspiartion for this piece came from my previous work with medical illustrations under antique photos and from the work of the late Susan Seddon Boulet. Susan often encorporated imagery within her figures. You can view some of her work at http://www.tendreams.org/boulet.htm . Amazon also has several great books on her work.
This piece is available in my Etsy shop. http://sarahogren.etsy.com

Oops

I'm not the most graceful of people and tend to bump into things and fumble delicate objects. I also have a fear of heights and hate being close to edges of high places. I always envision myself tripping and falling over the edge. This series is a reflection of these fears and my lack of coordination, but it also reflects my carefree attitude and easygoing personality.

This piece is part of my "falling" series . It's a 11x14" collage with an altered mat.
The mat has been altered using stencils, stencil paste, and paint. The mat has a wonderful raised texture to it.
This piece is available at my Etsy shop http://sarahogren.etsy.com/

Oh No! I've Been Tagged!

I was tagged by http://www.mtjoyschool.blogspot.com/yesterday. Here are the rules…..

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
2. Share 7 facts about YOU: some random, some weird...all devastatingly interesting.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).
4. Let them know they've been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs.

Facts About Me.
1. I can burp the alphabet.
2. I’m terrified of cockroaches.
3. I love puns. Whenever I need to send a card for a b-day, holiday, etc it usually involves a pun. My Halloween costumes are often puns as well. One year I wore a black trash bag and went as “white trash”.
4. I think counselors, social workers, psychiatrists, etc. are all a little crazy.
5. I have an earned Master’s degree in Professional Counseling but don’t practice (yes, I’m a little crazy myself). :)
6. I’m a big homebody. I would prefer to rent a movie than go to the theatre.
7. I love cold weather. I’d prefer to be freezing than hot any day.

The following are the people that I chose to torture with this “tag”.

My Thrift Store and Antiquing Adventure

I have been inspired by the blogs of Sarah Blank http://www.sarahblankstudios.com/blog/ and Marmeecraft http://marmeecraft.blogspot.com and how they share their inspirations behind their work. I have decided to share with all of you some of my inspirations and some of the ideas behind my work. The following are the results of my weekend thrift store and antiquing adventures. Both of these purchases inspired a new mixed media piece.

The above plaque I found at a thrift store in my town. It's 11x19" and made of ceramic. I got it for 50 cents!! I couldn't believe it. I just love the image! These are some doilies and lace that I picked up at a local antique shop. Antique shopping is one of my favorite things to do and I often find it hard to walk out empty handed. Often when I'm feeling the need for inspiration, I wander into my local antique shops to find my muse. Works every time!

This is the result of the inspirations from my purchases. "The Little Brown Balloon" is a 4" wooden plaque with a hand stamped doily. Hand stamped and hand drawn decorations have been applied around the outside edge.
This piece is available at my Etsy shop. http://sarahogren.etsy.com/

I Now Have Jewelry!

I'm now offering pendents of some of my art work.
These necklaces are available at my Etsy shop. http://sarahogren.etsy.com/

Two Deer and a Tree

This is another version of my "Two Deer and a Tree" prints. This one was silkscreened onto a decoartive paper and then I stamped the outer mat.
This print is available at my Etsy shop. http://sarahogren.etsy.com
